The Times, They Are a Changing

The Times, They Are a Changing

...And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin And there's no tellin' who That it's namin' For the loser now Will be later to win For the times they are a-changin' -Bob Dylan So, it is again getting to that time of year where the days and nights are equal (equinox= "equal night") and soon it will be dark seemingly all the time. You can feel it in the air, as I did on my ride yesterday. It felt like it was

Excerpts from CX at the Yurt: What I Bring Along

When I first started racing and going to longer rides away from home, I started to figure out a packing plan. In this short excerpt from the CX at the Yurt video, I show my Mountainsmith Bike Cube Deluxe race bag, Power2Max MegoExo Power Meter, and also my new pump, the Topeak Dualie. Having a great bag is so important to your success. You need proper storage for all your essentials. I tend to pack the bag the night before and double check before I leave. I got a pretty good

    CX at the Yurt 2019

What a great day to race! Saturday was epic: teh course, the heat, the struggle, the beauty of the venue, and the wedding. #cyclocross #MovieMonday

    Quick Review: Power Dot 2.0

I know that recovery is something to take seriously, and I have been good for the most part. I take rest days, and I eat healthy to help recovery. I have been trying to do more to improve my mobility, but man do I hate to use the foam roller. Just hate it. Period. For the past two months, I have been dabbling with the PowerDot 2.0 muscle stimulator. I know the $300 price tag might turn people away, but let me tell you something...you have spent more money on stuff you don't n

A Little Cross Work and Hiking ASP Eastwood Meadows

After the excitement of Saturday's UCI race in Rochester, Sunday capped off a great weekend with a beautiful fall cyclocross session in the morning and a new trail in Allegany State Park in the afternoon. Sue, the pups, and I headed out to ASP and did the Eastwood Meadows Trail. It was really well marked and a nice loop for a spectacular cool and sunny fall feeling day. The video was shot on the Insta360 One X. I have been using a foam mic cover for the bottom of the camera w
    Rochester UCI Cyclocross, Day 1

    Rochester UCI Cyclocross, Day 1

I really enjoyed another edition of UCI cyclocross in Rochester this year with the Campus crew. I did not race this time, but the women and men's elite races were fantastic. This is truly why the sport is so popular. It is so easy to see the race as it takes place, even though we were mistaken and initially thought Stephen Hyde had won the men's race! To be able to race on the same course on the same day as the elites is a real draw as well. You can see from the footage that

Get Out of Your Own Way

When you are working hard on the bike, it hurts afterwards. Sometimes, we try to aid our recovery through the use of anti-inflammatory drugs like Motrin to reduce pain and swelling, but are these measures actually reducing the benefits of training and stunting adaptation? After listening to the most recent Fast Talk podcast, I am slowly reconsidering what I do post-workout. I think you should give this always interesting podcast a listen and decide for yourself.
