Social Distancing and Zwift Meet Ups

Social Distancing and Zwift Meet Ups

Last year at this time, we were out and about exploring and getting places. This year, we are doing hard things like staying home and practicing social distancing in hope that it slows the spread of a pandemic. It's a sad but necessary state of affairs, and to somewhat lessen the isolation, I will be trying to run some Zwift Meet Ups on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays through April. The Omcyclingbuffalo rides take place at 3:30 EST. To join, you need to message me (FB, IG,

Video: Cat 4 Race (Full Video)

Here is a video of my Cat 4 race unedited. I gives a pretty good look at the whole course and all the obstacles you face on a muddy day like this was. I apologize in advance for the cussing and swearing and such. Shot on the GoPro Hero 7 Black. #MovieMonday #cyclocross #CampusCyclingCollective #CrossinthePark

Video: Cross in the Park 2019

The 10th anniversary of CITP was a huge success, with the second largest registration and a great course. The mud was heavy as usual, so I was happy to survive two races, the Cat 4 and the Master's 50+ without losing any parts off the bike. The two in a day was hard, but like I told someone, "When you have nothing to win, you have nothing to lose." Nearly everyone in the local bike community came out to enjoy the brisk day of racing. Here are some highlights. Shot on the Cano
    Campus TNR Finale

    Campus TNR Finale

The last Campus Wheelworks Tuesday Night Ride of the year was a blast! Now, it is on to cyclocross season and Thursday Night Cross practices. The season finale was the B2A ride with John Dunn, and he led a great ride to the Central Terminal and South Park. He really hammered it, and I had a blast. The after-party saw Steph B win the Spirit of Campus Award. I am sorry I did not film it, but I knew in that low light it would have been lousy. She is well deserving of the award a

    Hell Yah, or Heck No!

I’m a big podcast fan, and one of my favorites is the Tim Ferriss Show in which Tim hosts some of the most interesting folks. He has recently interviewed Julie Rice of SoulCycle and author Neil Gaiman, but the one that struck me the most was his recent interview with musician and CD Baby founder, Derek Sivers. Sivers, one of Tim’s personal friends and advisors, offered up some great advice on how to live your life to the fullest. His advice was to look at opportunities and de
Campus Ride Club Rides Again in 2019

Campus Ride Club Rides Again in 2019

The Campus Cycling Collective is again offering their Campus Ride Club for 2019. The CCC, which holds weekly Tuesday night rides and many others, does so much for the local cycling community. The Ride Club helps keep those rides insured and organized. If you join for the meager $10 fee, you have access to other rides throughout the season and you are covered (no need for a weekly waiver) for the Tuesday Night Rides. It’s worth it. I’m in, and you should be too! You will noti
A Beginner’s Guide to Cycling, Part 4: Four Sets of Skills for Your First Ride

A Beginner’s Guide to Cycling, Part 4: Four Sets of Skills for Your First Ride

So now that you have your bike, a couple items you need for riding, and a desire to ride, you need to get out there. Luckily, getting out is the easiest part, but here are a few skills to learn and practice before hitting the roadway or bike path. Skills for the road, pre-ride You need to properly check your bike and inflate your tires before riding. If you are running 25mm tires, start at about 90-100 psi and adjust up or down based on your weight. Schwalbe recommends about

More Fun in the Woods: Racing The Wednesday Night Race Series at Sprague Brook Park

Campus Wheelworks Wednesday Night Race Series at Sprague Brook Park is in full swing, with only one week left. I signed up to race the seventh week in the series to get in one more awesome ride before vacation and a week off the bike. The series features a 4 mile loop, with races of 4 (expert), 3 (single speed and sport), 2 (beginner), and 1 lap (juniors under 12 years of age). I have ridden SBP several times before, and I figured the beginner race would be a nice hour of wor

It's About Quality: Prepare, Share, and Dare

It’s about quality not quantity I am really loving the time I have spent on the bike lately, and I know exactly why. It’s the little things that matter. A clean bike. A lubed chain. A good riding group. A nice piece of gear or kit. A new place to explore. It is about quality, and the most important thing to have is quality time. Life is too short for a crappy bike ride. I really wasn’t much of a cyclist two or three years ago, but man did I want to be. I spent lots of time tr
Riding in a Pack, Part 4, 20 Random Thoughts on Group Rides

Riding in a Pack, Part 4, 20 Random Thoughts on Group Rides

Here are a bunch of random points that may or may not have found a place neatly in the previous series, but they are grating on me, so I am going to let them all out in one shot! Group rides are a great way to make friends and influence people. (That sounds familiar....?) Be nice and appreciate the group leader. Take it easy on the brakes. Modulate your speed by altering your pedaling first and foremost. Learn how to do basic repairs, like change your own flats, use a mini pu
